Apple's Tim Cook to visit India this week

New Delhi: As the company seeks to revive its sluggish iPhone sales in India, Apple Inc Chief Executive Tim Cook is likely to visit India this week and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following his visit to China, Cook's visit is seen as key to appealing the price-sensitive customers in India. It is noteworthy here that iPhone had recently posted its first ever decline in sales in India recently. Additionally, India has also denied permission to sell refurbished iphones.
Sources also claim Apple might look into the possibility of setting up a manufacturing unit in India, which would give a boost to the Prime Minister's 'Make in India' ambition.
Maharashtra, also run by the Bharatiya Janata Party, is already in talks with Apple product maker Foxconn Technology over it setting up of an iPhone plant, according to the reports.
Cook's visit to India is seen as crucial in the light of Apple facing some challenges in one of its most important overseas market, including weakening smartphone sales, the loss of an iPhone trademark dispute and the suspension of some of its online entertainment services.
More than 100 million smartphones were sold in India last year and the market is expected to grow by 25 percent this year, making India one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world.
