New Delhi: With the recent announcement that Indian trains will be fully smeared with advertisements, the Indian Railways is all set to cash in more than Rs 11,000 in revenue through advertisements placed on the trains.
In the next couple of months, iconic trains like the Rajdhani Express will not be boasting its classic red hue, but will be wrapped in advertisements from front to the back. The blue of the other Indian trains will be replaced by ads so that the railway ministry can generate another stream of revenue.
The Indian Railways has agreed to let corporations put ads on more than 10,000 trains across the country. It is expected that trains crossing through big cities will boast these ads. The minimum reserve price for buying ad space on the train will range anywhere from Rs 1 crore to Rs 6 crore.
With this announcement, the Indian Railways has tapped into one of the biggest revenue stream by letting corporations use the ad-space on its trains. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu expects to close the revenue deficit gap through this move.
Metro trains in Delhi, despite stations being inundated with ads, are also being used for advertisements.
