Mumbai: During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Reliance, Chairman, managing director and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani launched Reliance Jio.
During the AGM, Mukesh Ambani made some major announcements where he revealed that all voice calls will be free. He also said that Reliance Jio is dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for 1.2 billion Indians.
The share prices of Reliance went up by 1% even as the AGM was going on. Mukesh Ambani also added that because internet data is the oxygen of digital life, the mission of Reliance Jio is to take India from data shortage to data abundance.
Mukesh Ambani said that Jio tariffs were broadly designed on three principles. Firstly, the customer should pay for only one service — voice or data. So all voice calls will be absolutely free. No roaming charges will apply across India. Secondly, data must be affordable so Jio will have a base rate which is 1/10th of the market rates; 5 paise per MB, or Rs 50 per GB. So as data consumption increases the data becomes cheaper. Thirdly, the pricing structure should be simple so there would be just 10 tariff plans.
70 per cent of all smartphones in India are 4G LTE. Mukesh Ambani announced new Lyf devices with prices starting at Rs 2,999 and going up to Rs 5,999. The 4G LTE JioFi router at 1,999 ensured that the entry price for using the network will be low for Indians.

Jio Cinema will have a library of 6000 movies and
1,00,000 episodes of TV shows.
