New Delhi: Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is planning to expand and make Khadi reachable across the globe. If things fall in place the international trend-setting khadi products will be available online from next month.
In its proposal to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), KVIC has proposed to launch its online portal from next month.
Sales by e-commerce giants like Flipkart, Amazon India, Snapdeal, and Shopclues have motivted and forced KVIC to join the fleet. The sales of KVIC are especially to be above par in the small cities during festive season.
All the work related to the site is underway and is expected to prove fruitful and to be launched next month.
KVIC is also putting in place 16 franchises in states, including the national capital region (NCR), Goa, and Maharashtra. The commission, has so far, been selling its products through its own outlets.
“Through exports, we want to make khadi an international brand. Currently, we are not exporting directly. But through this cell we will start that. Demand for khadi items are huge in the US and UK markets,” Saxena told PTI
