New Delhi: In a press conference held on Thursday, Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das said that Rs 1000 notes will return in the market with new features and design.
With banks re-opening today for the public transactions, people thronged the place to exchange the now invalid Rs 500 and 1,000 notes.
People can exchange these notes in banks and post offices till December 30th up to a limited amount. Also, tax would be levied on deposits above Rs 2.5 lakh and any mismatch found in the income of the account holder would be fined with 200% penalty.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on November 8 announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1,000 notes, under which the notes can be exchanged with banks and post-offices till December 30th. The new notes of Rs 500 and 2,000 will be available in banks from November 10 and in ATMs from November 11 onwards.
