CEO of Ramdev-run FMCG Company Patanjali, Balkrishna has been named the eighth richest Indian by Hurun India Rich List 2017. In 2016, Balkrishna ranked 25th on the list after which there was an an exponential rise of 173% in his wealth amounting to Rs 70,000 Cr. Balkrishna began his career by telling people how to do yoga.

Balkrishna featured in at 814th position in the Forbes list of the World’s Billionaires in March this year. In 2016, Balkrishna was at 48th position on Forbes list of India’s 100 Richest People with a net worth of $2.5 billion.

Patanjali has a turnover of Rs 10,561 Cr in financial year 2017. Patanjali had a very shaky start but now it gives a very tough completion to major FMCG brands across the world. Balkrishna is a close aide of Yoga-Guru Ramdev and holds more than 94% stakes in Patanjali.

Recently, Patanjali CEO Balkrishna made headlines for furnishing a fake graduate degree in Sanskrit and also a forged high school degree to acquire a passport. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Acharya’s passport was issued on the basis of forged degrees.

Balkrishna was charged with cheating and criminal conspiracy for producing fake documents in 2012. He was arrested in the same year but all charges were dropped against him when NDA came into power. According to a news report, a RTI query revealed that Patanjali Ayurveda had donated Rs 11,00,000 to BJP, in 2009

Balkrishna was born in a Nepalese family who later migrated to India.
