Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh just two ahead of the Gujarat Assembly Elections, on Thursday addressed a conference and spoke on various issues of concerns related to Indian economy, corruption, and other issues related to the politics of Gujarat. Comparing the growth of Indian economy under the United Progressive Alliance rule led by Congress, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday said, “To equal the United  Progressive Alliance (UPA) 10-year average, the economy will have to grow at 10.6% in the fifth year. I would be happy if it were to happen but I frankly do not think it will.”

Comparing how those involved in corruption cases, scams were treated during their government rule and hwo they were being treated under the present ruling dispensation led by Bharatiya Janata Party under PM Modi, former PM Manmohan Singh said, “Whoever faced corruption allegations during UPA was dealt strictly, but the same cannot be said about BJP, they have not acted on corruption in their rule.” Manmohan Singh also raked PM Modi’s Narmada water issues, and said, “PM Modi says he took up Narmada issue with me but I don’t remember him talking to me about this issue, though whenever he wanted to meet me I never refused,was always ready as being PM it was my responsibility to meet all CMs.”

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also criticised the BJP led government over its foreign policy issues and said, “Our national security has been hurt by the inconsistent foreign policies of this government. Some steps taken by PM Modi government were not in the best interest of the country.”

 

Earlier taking on the Congress party while making a pitch for the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the upcoming elections in Gujarat state, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said that Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 is a contest between development, political stability vs opportunist alliance, anarchy.
