MUMBAI: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has given up his LPG subsidy. By doing so, he has become the first face from Bollywood to do the same.
Narendra Modi had appealed to those who are well off to give up their gas subsidy. Narendra Modi, while speaking at the ‘Urja Sangam’ in New Delhi on March 27, 2015 said, “I had made a small mention about giving up LPG subsidy. As many as 2.80 lakh people have responded positively…and this will lead to a saving of at least Rs. 100 crore. This Rs. 100 crore can be utilised for the welfare of poor.”
#GiveItUpMovement, started by Narendra Modi, was started to bring certain relief to millions of poor households. Under this movement, the ones who can afford to pay market price for the gas can give up their gas subsidy, which will then be used for providing LPG to the class of people belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL).
Bachchan is the latest to join the league of people supporting the #GiveItUpMovement and so, from now on, he will buy LPG at market price.
Till date, around 3.5 lakh people have given up their LPG subsidy.
