Indo-British actor, Saeed Jaffrey who entertained the audience with his several Bollywood and international movies passed away on Sunday.
86-year-old Jaffrey was a famous name in Indian cinema who appeared in blockbusters like ‘Henna’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, ‘Gandhi’, ‘Shatranj Ke Khiladi’, ‘Dil’, ‘Yeh Dillagi’ and many more.
Jaffrey’s niece Shaheen Aggarwal shared this sad news on her Facebook account. More details of his death are still awaited.
Born in Malerkotla, Punjab, Saeed studied at Aligarh Muslim University, the Wynberg Allen School and Allahabad University. After starting his career on stage, Saeed then set up a theatre company of his own in New Delhi. He later went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art or RADA in London.
After marrying actress and travel writer Mehrunima (Madhur Jaffrey), Saeed parted ways with her in 1966; however, the veteran actor later expressed his regret of divorcing her.
Saeed Jaffrey was the first Indian to receive the Order of the British Empire or OBE.
