Mumbai: Actors Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Fitoor’, an adaptation of British writer Charles Dickens's novel 'Great Expectations', minted Rs.3.61 crore on its opening day itself.
Made on a production cost of Rs.40 crore, the Abhishek Kapoor directorial is already in a great place financially as the film has already recovered close to 25 percent of its cost, read a statement.
‘Fitoor’ released on Friday in time for Valentine's Day as it is said to be a romantic saga. However, the film has received mixed reviews.
It will have to perform well on the weekend, says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
“#Fitoor will need huge numbers/jump on Saturday and Sunday to post a decent weekend total. India biz,” Adarsh posted on Twitter.
Filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar’s love story ‘Sanam Re’, starring Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam and Urvashi Rautela in the lead, has registered a promising start with an opening day collection of over Rs.5 crore.
The film, which released on Friday during the Valentine's Day weekend, collected Rs.5.04 crore on its opening day, read a statement from the makers.
Made on a budget of Rs.20.50 crore, ‘Sanam Re’, Divya's second directorial venture after 2014 film ‘Yaariyan’, has already recovered Rs.16 crore from music, satellite and overseas distribution.
Produced by T-Series, ‘Sanam Re’ is expected to see a good growth over the weekend, especially on Valentine's Day on Sunday.
The film also stars veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.
