Indian-American supermodel, actor, author and television personality Padma Lakshmi reveals some unknown facts about her marriage with Salman Rushdie, the Nobel Laureate in her autobiography – Love, Loss and What We Ate – releasing on International Women’s Day, March 8.
The memoirs talk at length about her marriage with Salman Rushdie, the author of Midnight’s Children.
Padma Lakshmi and Salman Rushdie got married in 2004 and divorced in 2007. She met Rushdie in 1999, at the age of 28. Rushdie, 51, was already married to his third wife.
Lakshmi in her memoir revealed that Rushdie had to be consoled every year till he did not win the Nobel Prize. Rushdie even referred to her as a “bad investment”, the autobiography reads.
Padma Lakshmi, who is 23 years younger to Salman Rushdie, wrote that during her married days, she would often refrain from physical intimacy owing to medical condition endometriosis and he was insensitive and said, “How convenient”.
