REVIEW: This Margarita is really different from the Margarita that you relish at every lounge. But this would give you equal pleasure and joy, we are sure. Laila (Kalki Koechlin) with cerebral palsy has strong love for music, romance and people but her problem impairs her motor functions.

Laila has support of her loving mother Shubhangi (Revathi) throughout her teenage but what exactly happens when she meets Khanum (Sayani) and discovers new shades to her sexuality? Is she turning lesbian for her? Any love making scenes between the two? Certainly, the story starts brewing from there.

‘Margarita with a Straw’ has delivered epic performances by the star cast. Kalki, amazingly portrays her character jailed to wheelchair but her spirit continues to fly as she relishes the pleasures and tight spots, from crushes to creative pushes of a college student’s life.

From laughing to crying, from expressing love to even masturbating, Kalki has never done a job better than this before. Every sequence delivered by her is absolutely perfect, even as she asks the shopkeepers for a ‘vibrator’ who considers it to be related to mobile phones. A terrific delivery just when it is needed.

Revathi on the other hand too matches Kalki’s level and shines as a slightly dull middle-class mother. The mother-daughter bond between the two is extra ordinary.

The concept of the ‘Margarita with a Straw’ is breakthrough that portrays physical challenges with intensity that would not come down. The direction is not only exceptional but also super sensitive. Don’t forget to notice Laila’s eyes when she is carried upstairs.

NewsX Verdict: Well, if you have a sensitive heart, believing that all challenges can be accomplished if you intend to do strongly, the movie is a must for you. Overall, one time watch is something that cannot go wrong. How can you forget that the movie actually made the ‘PK’ actor Aamir Khan weep for hours.
