AIB’s Tanmay Bhat takes u-turn on NewsX tweet

New Delhi: Comedian Tanmay Bhat of All India Bakchod (AIB), who tweeted out to social networking app Snapchat asking to be ‘paid’ after his insulting video went viral, first tweeted a sarcastic ‘Wow’ to NewsX’s ‘Tanmay Bhat wants cash for insult, asks Snapchat to pay him after video goes viral’ story, and later deleted the tweet.

When accessed later, the tweet was deleted.

Tanmay had earlier shared a video on his official Facebook page titled, “Sachin vs Lata Civil War (I make such nonsense on my Snapchat - follow me there - ID: Thetanmay) (Also I obviously love Lata and Sachin, just having some fun).”

The video has recieved a lot of flak from fans of Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar and other political parties who have said that the AIB comedian has crossed the line and that he should apologise.

MNS also went ahead and filed an FIR against Tanmay in the case.

Stop, guys.

Guys, just stop, please. You wrote a news piece on a tweet that was clearly sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek, at best, by presenting it as fact. Then, when the subject you wrote about, reacted to your "news" on twitter, you wrote another news piece on it? Stop it, guys.

New controversy

Honestly can not see why people are upset. I liked the video. You've got to keep laughing about the society and issues. Please don't change. We love your humour.

Journalism eh?

Er ... This is noise, not news. Try again.

Can't really be stopped now.

I guess this is what comedians do. They expose the darker faces of society. There are a lot of offense takers in the country, and everyone wants a piece of the action only when the subject at hand is doing the social media rounds. Even though Tanmay's video was not funny in the least bit (he should get out of his Townie house, and travel the country to understand and appreciate it's diversity, and develop a humbler sense of humor in the process), it was deemed important of the flak it's receiving online, simply by the stature and volume of people responding to the video. I think, the entire episode should be left alone to die a soundless death, instead of venerating it further with bans and backlash, just to satisfy our justice boners. It was 'nonsense' to begin with, and it hasn't changed forms anytime soon. Let's focus on more third-world issues people, maybe that'll take us somewhere.
