Mumbai: Bollywood legends on Wednesday came out in full support of director-producer Anurag Kashyap, who is facing a rough storm in getting his new flick ‘Udta Punjab’ approved by the Censor Board.
Even Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan reacted to the whole row saying, “I am not aware of the issue, but would like to say that don’t try to kill creativity.”
Producer-director Anurag Kashyap took to his Facebook page today and expressed his emotions over the controversy revolving his new project.
Adding his support to Anurag Kashyap, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said, “We can’t turn into a Saudi Arabia where there is opulence but no free thought in society.” He was present along with his daughter Alia Bhatt, who also stars in the film.
Udta Punjab, which is due for release on June 17, has mostly been grabbing eyeballs because of the report submitted by the Shyam Benegal-led panel to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
The movie is based on the drug menace in Punjab. The Censor Board suggested 89 cuts and asked the makers of the film to drop “Punjab” from its title, including every reference to the state – a move which enraged the makers of the flick and garnered sharp reactions on social media.
