New Delhi: Bollywood actor-producer Anil Kapoor, during the promotion of season 2 of his upcoming television series ‘24’, said that Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Sakshi Tanwar are two actors who have proved him wrong by showcasing their versatility.
The ‘Jhakas’ actor is all set to make a comeback on small screen with the second season of the hit TV series. The show is an Indian adaptation of American series ‘24’ and will feature the ‘Parvarish’ star Sakshi, who is also known as the ‘adarsh bahu’. The show will air on Colors channel from July 23 onwards.
Anil shared that he was nervous about getting her on board. “The makers asked me as a producer and as a leading actor about casting Sakshi on ’24’. I said ‘Yes. Done’. I had heard of her, seen her work and seen her play ‘aachi bahu’ (good daughter-in-law) on TV shows. So, I was nervous about her.
“But later, I was taken aback. She plays an anti-terrorist unit chief. She did that with total conviction. It is a tough role. When she acts, people only concentrate on her, so I am lucky that I have lesser scenes with her,” Anil told reporters during promotion of the series.
Sakshi is not the only actress who won Anil’s confidence.
“Two actors have proved me wrong. Apart from Sakshi, it was Madhuri Dixit. We were doing two films together. In one of them, she was playing ‘aachi ladki, gao ki ladki’ (good girl, village girl). I said ‘Perfect’. In the other film called ‘Hifazat’ (released in 1987), her role was a modern one. I couldn’t imagine her playing that character.
“I was doubtful and wondered whether the casting would affect my career. Then the director convinced me by saying that if I can play different characters on screen then why can’t she. And she did a fantastic job,” he said.
Earlier in the 17th edition of International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards night, the ‘Deewana Mastana’ actor won the Award for ‘Best Actor’ in supporting role for his character in ‘Dil Dhadakne Do.’
The 59-year-old actor, during his interaction with media on the green carpet of IIFA awards, the ‘Mr India’ actor said, “IIFA 2016 is very special. We released trailer of ‘Mirzya,’ which marks the debut of his son Harshvardhan Kapoor and I have a nomination for ‘Dil Dhadakne Do.”
He also said, “I am open to work in Pakistan, although he says that I would love to do films and dramas in Pakistan.”
Anil Kapoor has proved his versatility in International cinema and gained fame in with his roles in “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.”
