New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday told the Bombay High Court that its team had confirmed that actress Jiah Khan committed suicide and ruled out the angle of murder.
Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh told a division bench of Justice Naresh Patil and Justice Prakash Naik, "The CBI has no reason to protect the accused (actor Sooraj Pancholi) in the case."
Rabia Khan, mother of Jiah Khan is demanding probe into this matter claiming that her daughter was murdered and seeks a transfer of the case to a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
As per CBI's investigations, the cause of Jiah's death was 'suicide by hanging' but according to Rabia Khan someone had entered the flat from an open window. Also the fact that the distance between the fan and the floor did not support the case of suicide has been dispelled by the CBI. CBI said there was no proof to show that someone could have entered the flat.
Jiah Khan was found dead on June 3, 2013 at her residence in Mumbai. Her boyfriend, Sooraj Pancholi was arrested on June 10 on charge of abetment. He was released on July 3, 2013, after the high court granted him bail. The case was transferred to CBI after Rabia Khan approached the court claiming that her daughter was murdered. The CBI then filed a charge sheet against Pancholi for abetting Jiah's suicide on December 2015. Rabia Khan then moved to the high court alleging that CBI had ignored crucial evidence.
