New Delhi: Malayalam film director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has been getting it from left, right and center for his controversial post on Facebook.
The director had posted a status update which read: "Everyone is congratulating Sindhu, why not I spit at her?"
This didn’t go well with the fans of Shuttler PV Sindhu and they started trolling Sanal on social media.
People started abusing Sanal, saying that the director was looking for some cheap publicity.
In his defence, the director wrote an absurd tweet: “It was 'black humour' that people did not understand and are getting angry over.”
PV Sindhu lost in the finals to Spain's Carolina Marin and settled for silver, becoming the first Indian shuttler to achieve such feat.
The 21-year-old shuttler was given a rousing welcome by the Telangana government for her brilliant performance at Rio Olympics 2016.
Sindhu, who returned from Rio to Hyderabad to a grand welcome on Monday, received a cheque of Rs 5 crore from Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who also offered her a residential plot in Hyderabad and a government job.
