Mumbai: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma on Sunday criticized Indian athletes for a bad show at Rio Olympics 2016.
With 2 medals, we call ourselves Incredible India, then what US should call itself, Ram Gopal Varma wrote on his Twitter account.
In a series of tweets, RGV stated his opinion on India’s performance at Rio.
He wrote, “If for one silver we are jumping up and down screaming Mera Bharat Mahan. how high should be Americans jumping for 46 gold and 37 silver.” In another tweet he said, “A 32 crore population US wins 46 gold and a 5 crore population South Korea wins 9 gold nd a 120 crores population india wins 1 silver..Wah!”
Few weeks ago, write Shobha De had mocked team India for not winning medals at Rio. She had written on Twitter: “Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity.”
India bagged a silver and a bronze medal at Rio Olympics 2016.  Shutller PV Sindhu lost in the finals to Spain's Carolina Marin and settled for silver, becoming the first Indian shuttler to achieve such feat.
Sakshi Malik defeated Kyrgyzstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova to win a bronze in Women's Freestyle 58kg category getting India its first medal at the Rio Olympics 2016. She became the first Indian woman to bag a medal in wrestling.
But it seems India's not-so-big victory has failed to impress the filmaker.
