'Visaaranai' is India's official entry in the Foreign Language Film category for 2017 Oscars

New Delhi: On Thursday National Award-winning Tamil Film ‘Visaaranai’ was selected as India's official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2017 Academy Awards. 
The Film Federation of India's jury, headed by filmmaker Ketan Mehta, picked up Vetrimaaran's film from among 29 movies.
The Tamil movie ‘Visaaranai’ features Dinesh Ravi, Anandhi and Aadukalam Murugadoss in the lead roles. The story of the movie is based on the novel 'Lock Up' written by M Chandrakumar. 'Visaaranai' is produced by actor Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and directed by Vetrimaaran.
The main plot of the movie centres on the lives of three friends who were locked in a cell in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur for days and tortured physically and mentally.

‘Visaaranai’ won three national honours at the National Film Awards — best feature film in Tamil, best supporting actor for Samuthirakani and best editing. The movie also garnerd a lot of appreciation in international film festivals.
