Mumbai: Actress Vidya Balan starrer ‘Begum Jaan’, which happens to be the remake of Srijit Mukherjee’s Bengali movie ‘Rajkahini’ will hit the screens on January 6, 2017.
The movie is all about the trauma faced by displaced women in a brothel during the Partition era.
Milind Dabke, Head, Play Entertainment, said: “‘Begum Jaan’ is a high-voltage denouement, a strong women protagonist commercial cinema, created by master craftsman Srijit Mukherji. We will have a wide release on January 6, 2017.”
‘Begum Jaan’ is produced by Play Entertainment and directed by National Award winner Srijit Mukherjee, Mukherjee will make his Bollywood debut with this movie.
‘Kahaani’ fame actress Vidya Balan plays the role of the madam of a brothel in the film and in the Bengali version the role is played popular Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta.
‘Begum Jaan’ also features Naseeruddin Shah, Rajat Kapoor, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Ila Arun, Ashish Vidyarthi and Chunky Pandey.
