Mumbai: Director and producer Karan Johar made a shocking revelation saying he wanted to destroy actor Anushka Sharma’s career. He also said that he tried his level best o do so but later on realised that the owed an apology to Anushka.

KJo was speaking at Mumbai Film Festival 2016 (MAMI).

He addressed the audience with the leading actors of his film, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma.

During the discussion, the ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ director said, “I wanted to completely murder Anushka’s career. I tried my level best to do that. When Aditya Chopra showed me her image, I said, ‘No no, you’re mad or what? Why are you signing her? You’re crazy! There’s no need for you to sign this Anushka Sharma. There was another lead actress at that time who I wanted Adi to sign. And I was totally behind-the-scene sabotaging Anushka completely. I was also watching ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ reluctantly. But when I saw ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, I called her and I felt like I owed her an apology and a compliment. Apology because I felt so embarrassed that I would have ruined the draft of an exceptional talent. Compliment, because I thought she was amazing!”

Though Anushka kept mum on KJo comment, Aishwarya applauded Karan for his honest confession.

“I want to applaud Karan because what he did right now was amazing. He publicly said how he owes an apology to Anushka; that usually doesn’t happen. Who does that? People comment behind you but nobody comes out and says that, ‘I have said this about you and I am sorry, you proved me wrong.’ That’s outstanding,” said Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ will be released on October 28.
