New Delhi: Two Kannada actors, who drowned on Monday after they jumped from a helicopter into Thippagondanahalli reservoir during the shooting of a film, did not know how to swim, police have said.

The actors were performing a stunt for the film ‘Mastigudi’ when they jumped into the reservoir as a part of an action sequence.

Police superintendent Chandra Gupta told ‘The Guardian’ that the two stuntmen Raghav Uday and Anil Verma did not know how to swim and also they were not wearing any life vests.

A motorboat that was supposed to rush to the scene to rescue them was found to be not working.

The police also said that one of the stuntmen was scared of performing the stunt because he had not done it before.

Local fishermen tried to locate the two stuntmen but found no trace of them.

Police have registered a case of negligence against the film’s director and producers.

A massive search operation is underway to fish out the bodies.
