National Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar is known for his socially-aware style of filmmaking. And his latest, Calendar Girls, which is slated for a countrywide release in August this year, promises to fit his cinematic mould just right.
The film tells the story of five young models who, after spending one heady year in the limelight of the “glamour industry”, end up as forgotten figures. The publicity campaign for the movie is now beginning to gain steam, with its teaser poster revealed by the Guardian20. Which is also the first publication Bhandarkar is speaking to.
An exclusive interview with the director will also be out here this Sunday.
Calendar Girls will see five actresses — “new faces”, as the director has called them — making their Bollywood debut.
Bhandarkar is well acquainted with the intricacies of the fashion world as was evident in his previous film, the Priyanka Chopra-starrer Fashion.
So with Calendar Girls the director finds himself on familiar ground, although this time his attempt is to put the spotlight on figures along the margins of the fashion industry.
