After Friday’s shocking episode of a popular Malayalam actor’s abduction and molestation, noted Tamil actress Varalakshmi Sarathkumar has opened about a disturbing incidence that she was part of.
Varalaxmi took to twitter to share her horrific experience and claimed that a TV channel executive had made unwanted overtures at her during an official meeting.
“I was in a meeting with the programming head of a leading TV channel. Towards the end of the half-hour meeting, he asked me, ‘So…when can we meet outside?’ To which I replied, ‘Regarding some other work?’ His reply was(said with a smug smile like it was the norm) ‘No no! Not work… for other things.’ I hid my shock and anger and told him, ‘Sorry! Please leave.’ His last word on the topic was, ‘So…that’s all?’ He smiled and walked away,” she posted on Twitter.
“I am an actress. It does not mean that just because I lead a glamourous life on screen that I deserve to be spoken with disrespect. It’s my life, my body and my wish,” Varalaxmi further wrote in the letter.
Varalaxmi added that women’s safety had become a joke in the country as there has been a spurt in incidents of rape, molestation, manhandling and disrespect to women.
