Actor Warren Beatty did a Steve Harvey as he wrongly announced ‘La La Land’ for Best Picture at the Oscars on Sunday.
The ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway came on stage to present the Oscar for Best Motion Picture. In what will probably be the most memorable Oscar moment, they announced ‘La La Land’ instead of ‘Moonlight’, the correct winner.
Admitting to the mistake, Beatty said, “I wasn’t trying to be funny.” The presenters explained that they had the wrong envelope.
Embarrassingly enough, the team of ‘La La Land’ had already arrived on stage when the mistake was corrected.
The 89th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, were held Dolby Theatre at Los Angeles’ Hollywood & Highland Center on 26 February Sunday.
‘La La Land’ won big with 6 awards, including Best Actress for Emma Stone and Best Director for Damien Chazelle among others.
