Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao, who were to attend the ‘Satyamev Jayate Water Cup’ awards, had to miss the event after they were detected with H1N1 virus (Swine Flu). 

Addressing the event via video conferencing, Aamir Khan said, “have contracted Swine Flu and are skipping the event so that others do not contract the same”.

Speaking about not being able to attend the event, Aamir said that he was upset today as after a year this day had come … to celebrate the occasion. But the disease that he has been detected with is Swine Flu which is a communicable. He will have to be at home so as other do not get in its influence.”

“I am upset that I am not present there. I will have at home for a week,” Aamir Khan added. Aamir Khan was joined by his wife Kiran Rao during the video conferencing. 

However, filing in for Aamir Khan, the ‘King of Romance’ Shah Rukh Khan – who has been running busy with the promotion of his latest film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ attended the event.

Aamir asked Shah Rukh Khan to fill in for him who agreed, Smriti Kiran, who was at the event with Anupama Chopra as Kiran Rao’s friend and collaborator on MAMI, posted on social media.

“Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao both have swine flu, so couldn’t make it for the finale. Both plug into the event via Skype and say that today is Friendship Day, so they requested Shah Rukh Khan to represent them at the Paani Foundation Cup finale,” she said. 

Among the guests at the event were Nita Ambani, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Ram Madhvani and Nagraj Man Jule, she added.

Satyamev Jayate Water Cup is a competition between different villages to see who can do the maximum work for watershed management and water conservation in the period of the competition. It’s the second edition this year who competition was from April 8 to May 22, 2017. 

The top three villages will get cash prizes of Rs. 50 lakhs, Rs. 30 lakhs and Rs. 20 lakhs.
