She is talented actor-director and he is a talented producer-director. Now, it looks like Tamil actress Revathi and Mahesh Bhatt will be collaborating. She is going to be directing a modern-day version of his famous film ‘Arth’.
‘Arth’ (1982) starred Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Smita Patil. It became a cult film of sorts and was also remade in Tamil. Interestingly, it was Revathi who essayed Shabana Azmi’s role in the Tamil version, Marupadiyum, directed by noted director Balu Mahendra.
Actress Revathi has directed five films earlier and two of them have bagged National Awards. The remake of ‘Arth’ will not only be challenging but will present a new perspective as well. Given that two of the three main characters in this film are women, a woman director is likely to showcase them in a different light on screen. According to sources, Revathi is already working on the script with writer Kamlesh Pandey for the new age ‘Arth’. The cast for this film has not been finalised yet.
Mahesh Bhatt had told media earlier this year that Sarath Chandra and Pravesh Bhardwaj had bought the remake rights of Arth. He had said, “The film will be a given a 21st century interpretation, contemporised by a new mind as per the new age. Sarath wants me to have a creative gaze on the film.” The director is apparently happy that it is Revathi who will be helming this project.
