Hugh Marston Hefner who shot to fame with his men’s lifestyle magazine, ‘Playboy’ and as star of E! Reality show ‘The Girls Next Door’ passed away at 91. The Playboy Company confirmed that the businessman died a natural death, surrounded by family and close friends at his home in Los Angeles.
Hugh Hefner the founder and publishing legend got the idea of the magazine while he was working a publishing house after college and Army. Hefner is also known for stoking the ‘sexual revolution’ with his iconic magazine.
Playboy Hugh Hefner was born on April 9, 1926 in Chicago. He introduced the world to Playboy magazine in 1953 and turned his company into one of the most recognisable American global brands in history till date.
Apart for being known for his iconic magazine, Hugh’s trademarked style included pipe-smoking, dressing in silk-pajama and being the center of a constant fantasy party at Playboy mansions.
Commenting on the death of Hugh Hefner, Cooper Hefner (Chief Creative Officer of Playboy Enterprises) said, “My father lived an exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer and a leading voice behind some of the most significant social and cultural movements of our time in advocating free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom. He defined a lifestyle and ethos that lie at the heart of the Playboy brand, one of the most recognizable and enduring in history. He will be greatly missed by many, including his wife Crystal, my sister Christie and my brothers David and Marston, and all of us at Playboy Enterprises.”
Apart from being known for Playboy magazine, the logo which he used ‘Bunny’, also became the talk of the town. During an interview when asked about the ‘bunny’ logo, Hugh Hefner said, “The rabbit, the bunny, in America has a sexual meaning; and I chose it because it’s a fresh animal, shy, vivacious, jumping — sexy.”
Throughout the time period of life in the Playboy Mansion, Hefner was known for housing multiple young women in the home at the same time, including Girls Next Door stars Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson.
Currently, Hugh Hefner was married to Crystal, who is a 31-year-old model. She was also the Playboy Playmate of the Month for December 2009.
