Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has on Thursday released the first motion poster of his forthcoming film Padman starring Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. After unveiling two posters and several different looks from the film, the actor has now shared a motion poster in which we can hear how Sonam Kapoor is teaching Akshay Kumar how to pronounce Padman and then they further tell us about the release date of the film. Padman focuses on the important issue of availability and usage of sanitary napkins. It also focuses on spreading awareness about the importance of sanitary napkins during periods and is a move to remove dishonor about periods.

Padman is inspired by the real life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham (played by Akshay), who became a popular figure for inventing low-cost sanitary making machines and hence, the name of the movie. Mr Muruganantham felt the need to come up with a convenient solution to tackle menstrual health for women after he learned his wife used newspaper and rags during her menstrual cycle. Arunachalam’s story even inspired Twinkle Khanna so much that she mentioned him in one of the chapters of her book ‘The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad’.

Helmed by R Balki, Padman will be produced by Twinkle Khanna and is slated to release on January 26, 2018. Akshay Kumar’s three releases in 2018 include Gold, Padman and 2.0 and fans are extremely excited. Before Padman, Akshay Kumar won our hearts in the film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha which focused on the problem of open defecation in India and inspired people to have proper sanitation in their homes.
