Amitabh Bachchan, the one name that does not need any sort of introduction, is celebrating his 75th birthday today. Amitabh Bachchan kicked-off his legendary career at 27 with an image of a ‘young angry man’. Amitabh Bachchan who derived a lot of attention from his looks was the son of renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Birthday boy Amitabh Bachchan who is also popularly known as Big B started his career with ‘Saat Hindustani’ in 1969. At that time the directors in the industry noticed the ‘fire’ in his eyes and he later got the tag of ‘Angry Young Man’ from his movies like — Zanjeer, Kala Patthar, Deewar, Coolie and Shahenshah. Just like every self-made man, there was not always the red carpet for Amitabh Bachchan. In the starting of his film career, Bachchan faced many hurdles with as much as 12 films bombarding at the box-office back-to-back.
Unlike today’s actors, who prefer to carry one tag onto their shoulders, Amitabh Bachchan was mostly known for his versatility. From being an angry young man, taking revenge for his father’s death in Agneepath to a geeky boy dressed in ‘kurta pyjama’ trying to impress a girl in Chupke Chupke, you name it and Amitabh Bachchan has done it.
After docking his early career mishaps, Big B seems to be on a roller-coaster ride with no signs of slowing down. Even at the age of 75, when most of us spot our grandparents on a rocking chair, Big B takes on the ‘hot seat’ of one of the most popular TV shows, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
Amitabh Bachchan, who was born on October 11, 1942 in Allahabad to the radical Hindi Poet Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan and his Sikh wife Teji Bachchan, has won numerous accolades in his career, including four National Film Awards as Best Actor and many awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies. He has won 15 Filmfare Awards and is the most nominated performer in any major acting category at Filmfare, with 41 nominations overall.
