Mohanlal’s Villain which hit the theatres on Friday in a grand manner is doing quite well at the box office. The film had a grand opening with 273+ screens in Kerala and 402 screens across India, which is a record for a Malayalam film. According to the reports, the film has collected Rs 4.08 crores on the first day at the Kerala box office alone and is expected to shatter previous records set by Mohanlal’s other films. According to Forum Keralam, the film managed to earn Rs 11. 34 Lakhs at an occupancy rate of 96.57% at the Kochi multiplexes alone. The film beat Vijay starrer Mersal’s collections, which had minted Rs 9.94 lakhs on its first day from 35 shows.
Talking about the storyline of the film, Mohanlal stars as the central character in the action-thriller, while Manju Warrier is essaying the role of his wife. This is director B Unnikrishnan’s fourth outing with Mohanlal. The duo had earlier worked together in Madampi, Grand Master, and Mr. Fraud. Apart from Mohanlal and Manju, Tamil actors Vishal and Hansika Motwani will also be seen in the movie. The promo videos of the investigative thriller movie revolving around murder cases looked promising and were well received by the audiences.
The movie has mostly received positive reviews from both the audiences and critics alike. Mohanlal’s acting has taken the cake as his performance is the main attraction of the film. Cinema buffs have also showered praises upon Tamil actor Vishal who has made his debut with the movie. There was great enthusiasm among audiences for the film on first day and the movie is expected to pick up the pace further on Saturday. A few film pundits are convinced that the movie will cross the 100-crore mark.
