NewsX exposes RTI documents that show the Maharashtra govt paid lakhs of rupees in first-class travel for a tourism promotion event in Times Square in New York for top Bollywood stars. In an event that cost 5 crore rupees, first-class travel for these stars was paid by the exchequer and no money was recovered from the stars, but on the other hand ‘dahi handi’ workers who went for a similar performance, were sent an air travel bill worth 60,000 rupees.

Taxpayer pays for stars, but poor ‘dahi handi’ performers are asked to pay their way through?
