A big chemical disaster in Dombivili in Thane where 5 people lost their lives at last count, more than a 150 injured some of them critically and many more still missing.
It is, as many experts are calling it, another wake up call for India. The extent of the casualties might not be as great as the Bhopal tragedy, but the signs are all there - negligence, collusion, apathy even corruption.
Residents allege that this is the first such explosion where chemical gases have been released in the air, toxic gases. Now the NDRF says that there is no need to panic about the toxicity of the air, and we agree.
But we ask could this have been avoided? And the answer is a clear yes.
