Google marked the occasion of Nowruz on Tuesday with colourful Google Doodle which represented the impending arrival of the spring and summer season.

So what is Nowruz?

The occasion Nowruz dates back to ancient history. It is believed that Nowruz started in Iran, which is why it is known as the Iranian New Year or the Persian New Year. Nowruz is the celebration of New Year as the world witnesses seasonal shift from winter to spring.

How is modern day Nowruz celebrated?

Before the occasion of Nowruz, families spend time cleaning their house and repair anything that is broken inside their residence. The process is known as Khaneh Takani.

Days before Nowruz, family members go through spiritual cleansing process where they jump over fire pits and recite various prayers.

On the final days just before Nowruz, families prepare feasts which are symbolic of that time of the year. Following Nowruz, members then visit each other’s houses for two weeks. The final day is marked by the 13th day of the New Year.
