Padma Shri sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik in his own way paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 142nd birth anniversary by drawing a beautiful sand art at a beach. World famous sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik was awarded Padma Shri in 2014 by Government of India, created a sand art at Puribeach in Odisha portraying Sardar Vallabhbhai’s image and with a message promoting ‘Run for Unity’. Sudarsan Pattnaik took to his Twitter account and shared the photo of his sand art and said, “Tribute to Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. My sand art with a message ‘Run for Unity’ at Puri beach in Odisha.”

Acclaimed for his talent globally, Sudarsan Pattnaik started at the age of seven by sculpting images on the sand. With time, he designed a number of sand arts, evolving and acing in his art. Sudarsan Pattnaik was the brand ambassador of NALCO, India. Pattnaik also established “The Golden Sand Art Institute” which is first of its kind in India. Sudarsan sculptures are generally based on themes like environmental crisis, famous festivals, national integrity and religious tolerance. Sudarsan Pattnaik has shown off his talent in a number of countries like France, Denmark, Russia, Spain, Moscow, US, Berlin, Canada and many other nations. 

Apart from Sudarsan Pattnaik, Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Boxer Vijendra Gupta also came forward and acknowledged the occasion by urging people to participate in ‘Run for Unity’ organised to pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 142nd birth anniversary. Earlier in the day, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior ministers paid tribute to Sardar Patel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off ‘Run for Unity’ from Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in Delhi and remembered Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his service to the nation. Praising the ‘Iron Man’ of India, PM Modi said that the nation was proud of his contribution to India. “We remember Sardar Patel on his birth anniversary. We are proud of his contribution to India before we attained freedom,” PM Modi added.
