Nation at 9 : Caste politics trumps RSS 'Advice'

It's close, it's very close. In the great gamble of what makes you vote for whom. The choice was clear. The Old Vs New, tried and tested formulas Vs Bold new initiatives. Twelve hours before the first vote is cast in 2015's biggest electoral battle in Bihar. 
The prime minister seemed to conclude that prudence would win Bihar better than paradigmatic change. He'd been goaded in a deeply caste conscious state by his rival Nitish to take a stand on reservations after the RSS chief expounded a vision of India without quotas. He had been careful to be ambivalent till tonight.
But from a podium in Mumbai the PM invoked Ambedkar & echoed across Bihar this evening. He said reservations would stay, that the opposition was spreading lies. The voters of Bihar will decide which political gambit was the better one.
