In an encouraging start to the Winter Session the NDA and the opposition dived into debate.

This is the first time in more than six months when the Parliament actually witnessed zero disruptions.

Speaking during a tribute to Dr. Ambedkar one of the Founding Fathers of the Constitution, the NDA questioned the move to bring about the 42nd Amendment.

The Home Minister speaking for the Government wondered why the word Secualrism was written into the preamble via the amendment when Ambedkar himself never felt the need to do so. The Home minister also said the word Secularism was the most misused in Indian politics, implying that parties such as the Congress practice it only in name and not in spirit.

The Congress hitback via Sonia Gandhi who sarcastically questioned the NDA saying those who can't uphold the values enshrined by the Founding Fathers shouldn't critique the Constitution and what it stands for.
