A major debate on the fate of the Ram Mandir has broken out. The BJP has today suggested that since the national sentiment is overwhelmingly for the construction of the Ram Mandir before the end of 2016 but it would be ideal if a settlement was arrived at with the minority community ahead of the impending supreme court verdict.
However, moments after Dr Subramanian Swamy threw up the idea, a number of minority groups and parties refused to accept it. They believe that the law as pronounced by the Supreme Court is supreme not public sentiment.
In other words, minority community has ruled out any compromise ahead of the Supreme Court's judgement setting the stage for a court brokered solution which might not satisfy the stakeholders. The communities’ stand raises a serious question—are groups opposing the out-of-court settlement risking the unity of the country?
