Nation at 9
A day after we debated on Nation at 9 that the right to puja was a gender issue that needed to be addressed across religions, a group of women in Mumbai came out to demand their right to enter the sanctum santorum at Haji Ali. They too like the women group demanding the right to enter the Shani temple believe that discrimination in religious places of worship must end.
Two days, two cities, two groups of women activists have shaken patriarchal India into taking notice. Though traditionalists scoff at their demand, these women are quite willing to take the fight as far as possible.
Will we see patriarchy-induced discrimination across all religions finally end? And even if there is spiritual justification as alleged by some, should this be allowed in a mature democracy?
