New Delhi: Was the much-touted saffron terror link behind the Samjhauta and Malegaon blasts floated to advance a politically convenient theory? This disturbing question has cropped after NewsX accessed the depositions of several witnesses in the Samjhauta and Malegaon blasts case.
In these depositions submitted in court, the key witnesses being relied upon by the NIA to back the saffron terror theory have said that they were coerced into implicating the likes of Swamy Aseemanand, Lt Col Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.
These revised depositions under Sec 164 of CRPC are admissible in court and constitute a huge setback to the saffron terror theory propounded by the UPA after the NIA took over the case in 2011.
NewsX has been able to confirm that these witnesses have now given a virtual clean chit to those from the Hindu groups who were accused of masterminding the Samjhauta blast and the Malegaon blast.
These testimonies raise several questions about the manner in which the NIA conducted the probe into investigating the case under the UPA.
