Never allow the problem to defeat you. That's what APJ Kalam once told his colleagues at the DRDO. They now plan to set up a statue of India's missile man at his gravesite in Rameswaram on the day of his first death anniversary.
It'll be a 7-foot bronze with the smiling face that typifies the legend of a man that he was. But a clerical outfit in Tamil Nadu has an objection. They say building a statue amounts to idol worship and are dead set against it. So does it?
Does a statue of a national icon amount to idol worship? Or is there an attempt being made to play identity politics and appropriate the legacy of an individual who identifies the spirit of One India?
