Sheena murder: DNA reports awaited

MUMBAI: The toil of Mumbai police to gather all evidences and the motive behind Sheena Bora’s murder seems to be bearing fruit. The accused trio including Indrani Mukerjea, her ex-husband, Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai were taken into police custody till September 7th, 2015. They are to be produced in court today.

The conspiracy and crime, planned three years ago, was recreated by police by taking Indrani to her home in Worli and a place in Bandra. This was done by police in order to understand the sequence of events that took place on the night of the murder.

Police have alleged that it was on April 24, 2012 evening when Indrani and Khanna had picked up Sheena from a spot near Bandra in the vehicle driven by Rai.

They drove to some quiet bylanes of Bandra where Sheena was allegedly strangulated by her mother and the car was later taken to the then media tycoon, Peter Mukherjea's bungalow garage in Marlow Housing Society in Worli.

Later, they took it to an isolated spot near Gagode village in Raigad where they burnt and disposed off the body.

Police has also recovered the car which was used for committing the ghastly crime.

The investigators have also said that they have matched Sheena's profile with the digital superimposition on the skull recovered from the Gagode forests.

Being the last day of the custody, police now awaits DNA and forensic test reports, expected today, to substantiate and consolidate their case.

Presently, Indrani has been taken to Khar police station and will be produced in court today.

However, there are some weak links that are still lingering on to this case. Let’s take a look on some of them:
1. Motive is still unclear
2. Indrani yet to confess
3. No eye witness found
4. No proof of financial dealings
5. Botch-up by Raigad cops
