PM expresses regret on Chandigarh shutdown

CHANDIGARH: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Chandigarh on Friday to inaugurate a new terminal at Chandigarh airport, which will handle both, domestic and international flights. In order to avoid inconvenience, schools and colleges remained closed.

Looking at the inconvenience caused to the citizens of Chandigarh due to the arrangements and road diversions made for his visit, PM Modi deeply regretted the situation and expressed his regret by tweeting about the same on a social media website.

PM Narendra Modi Tweeted on Friday, “The inconvenience caused to citizens in Chandigarh, especially shutting of schools due to my visit is regretted. It was totally avoidable.”

Following the inaugural of the airport, he also attended the convocation ceremony of the main hospital in Chandigarh.

The crematorium, next to a public park where Modi made an address, was turned into a temporary parking lot. The ground was to be open at 1pm for the cremations, after the PM had finished his address.

Special arrangements were made to ensure that the ambulances reach the PGIMER Hospital without any delay, due to the route diversion caused due to PM’s visit.

An advisory was also issued by the Chandigarh police asking people to enter the city through Panchkula, instead of Zirakpur in Punjab.

Around 4500 personnel, including SWAT team members and commandos were deployed in the city to ensure the PMs security.
