DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on security today has cleared a deal worth around $2.5 billion for 22 Apache attack helicopters and 15 Chinook heavy-lift choppers. 
 
One contract has been signed with Boeing for the helicopter and, for weapons, radars and, electronic warfare suites the contract has been signed with the US government. 
 
The deal was to be signed during the visit of the US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter in June, 2015, as was expected by many in the defence sector. 
 
PM Modi is leaving for the US tomorrow, to attend the UN General Assembly. 
 
US had been pushing for this contract as it will further strengthen their presence in the already expanding Indian defence market.
