CHENNAI: In another shocker from the Saudi Arabia, the right hand of an Indian woman was chopped off by her Saudi boss after she complained about harassment and torture. Taking a strong stand India has asked the Saudi authorities to take strict action against the culprit.
“This is unacceptable. We are very disturbed over the brutal manner in which the Indian lady has been treated in Saudi Arabia,” Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted this morning.
58-year-old Kashturi Munirathinam was trying to escape last Tuesday from her employer’s house where she was working as a domestic help when her employer chopped off her arm.
According to the claims made by the victim’s family in Tamil Nadu, Kashturi was being tortured and starved by her employer.
“Kashturi’s employer was angry after she told local officials about the harassment she was facing there; she was not even provided food,” S Vijayakumari, sister of Ms Munirathinam, was quoted as saying by a news agency.
She further added, “When she tried to escape the harassment and torture, her right hand was chopped off by the woman employer. She fell down and suffered serious spinal injuries.”
In her appeal to the government, Vijayakumari has requested to her sister be brought back from Riyadh where she is presently being treated in a hospital.
Kashturi went to Saudi Arabia only three months ago to work as a domestic help. According to the relatives of Kashturi, they learnt about this unfortunatee incident through agents who had sent her to Saudi Arabia. These agents also claimed of possessing a mobile phone video of her.
As per our Foreign Ministry the Indian embassy in Riyadh has taken up the case with the Saudi Foreign Office and has asked them to file charges of attempt to murder against the woman employer who was responsible for this gruesome act.
