HYDERABAD: Congress MP and former Union Minister Renuka Chowdhury has been booked by the Hyderabad police for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs. 1.10 crore by promising an Assembly ticket to a local leader ahead of elections last year.

The case has been registered against Chowdhury under the SC/ST Atrocities Act following the order by Hyderabad High Court on the complaint filed by Kalavati, who alleged that Renuka took money from her husband for giving him a party ticket to contest from Wyra Assembly constituency in Khammam district.

Kalavati also alleged that her husband died in October last year because he was weighed under the pressure of the debts they incurred to raise the money.

‘Renuka abused me over my caste when I asked her to return the money’, Kalavati added.

Meanwhile, Renuka in her reaction said, “This is totally baseless, unsubstantiated and politically motivated. I have never met this woman in my life. I can swear by that. Such unfortunate things happen in politics.”
