Amidst the second day of the Parliament's winter session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for tea.
This move by PM Modi is being seen as an opportunity for the BJP govt to discuss all issues with the Opposition on GST bill in order to pass it in this current winter session.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi reacted on this invitation and said, "This sudden move by PM Modi's government to discuss GST with Opposition has come after public pressure, but it is not the intention of the government".
RaGa on being asked if the government agrees to their conditions on GST bill said, "We have three differences on GST bill with the government, talks are on; GST will benefit people. We want to put a cap on tax”.
Denying itself of public pressure, PM Modi received Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi at his official residence on Friday.
The PM's office tweeted that Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, along with top ministers were present at the meeting.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu were present during the meeting.
Earlier in the day, Naidu told reporters that the prime minister has invited the two Congress leaders for tea to discuss issues related to important bills and working together for the smooth functioning of parliament.
