Armed Forces gear up to help Chennai

Chennai: Due to the closure of the Chennai Airport, the Govt of India Civil and Defence Aviation Authorities are working to fully utilise four airfields/airstrips—Tirupati, Tambaram, Trichy, Ernakullam in the vicinity of Chennai city for air assistance in the relief and rescue ops.

 

The Navy has decided to deploy its naval ship INS Airawat, which is expected to reach Chennai by tonight or by tomorrow morning for rescue operations. A press conference was also held by Flag Officer Commanding in Chief to assess the flood situation in Chennai and make plans on evacuating the stranded.
