In the midst of rescue operations and social media awareness aimed at assisting and rescuing the stranded in rain-hit Tamil Nadu, chief minister Jayalalitha’s govt pulled a shocker when delayed relief for the victims came with ‘Amma stickers’ attached to them.
This political advertisement came to light when the state govt of Tamil Nadu started providing essential relief stocks in the worst-affected areas with Jayalalitha’s sticker on them.
Jayalalitha, the CM of Tamil Nadu, has her own established ‘Amma brand’ which sells essentials like water bottles and salt. The CM has been criticized for being absent in this time of crisis and for giving a mute response to the victims who have been deprived of basic essentials for more than three days.
The Chief Minister had earlier conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas of Chennai and its suburbs.
In a press conference yesterday, govt officials including chief secretary, chief additional secretary, the health secterary, and other notable officials said that the State had tried its best in providing timely assistance during the disaster.
With the northern part of Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvalu) experiencing the severest deluge, the death toll has risen to 325.
Rain has subsided in the northern part of Tamil Nadu, but the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal may lead to showers in the southern part of the State.
