Nirbhaya rape case
Pertaining to the release of the juvenile convicted in the December 16 Nirbhaya case, Union Minister for Women & Child Development Maneka Gandhi evinced her dissatisfaction over the inadequate punishment laid out for the minor.
The minister said that the largest segment of people taking to crime were people between the ages of 16 and 18. She expressed her disappointment over the Rajya Sabha brooding half-bakedly over the juvenile bill for over one and a half years.
She further added that a child who was protected lawfully by the government would take to the crime repeatedly if not apprehended under criminal jurisdiction.
A large section of society has expressed their consternation over the release of the juvenile who was sent to remand home for three years in involvement in the rape and the murder of Nirbhaya.
The juvenile is going to be released this month.
